Drama project - Initial ideas.

Today, I sat down and wrote down inital ideas that I could put forward for our scheduled group meeting next week.  I came up with two ideas in particular and found that my analysis on 'About a girl' and Sign language helped me achieve some of these ideas.
Here are my summary of the two films/aspects I would like to include in my own production;

About a girl
Some techniques in this film I would like to use in my own drama piece - specifically, The walking shots and talking to camera, The use of flashbacks throughout make a nice break from the documentary feel 'face to camera'. I also hope to hold some sort of twist within my own film, with the reveal being quiet unpredictive and holding an impact upon the viewer.

Sign Language
From this I can take away the importance of creating that character to viewer relationship. The character needs to be interesting enough and hold a good enough backdrop to keep the viewer entertained. The performance is also important and needs to be believable enough to create that connection. I plan to spend time looking for a goo and suitable actor, when it comes to planning our own piece.

Idea 1)
the story of a young man (mid 20’s), telling the audience about himself (personality, experiences and interests), whilst walking down an unknown street (unknown destination). The use of flashbacks are present, e.g. used to like going to the gym, socialising with friends (pub, park, shops), hiking, used to be close with the family (not close no more, this means that throughout the short piece he discretely hints at being homeless). One end shot of his true identity (Homeless) possibly speaking directly to the camera. This piece is inspired from ‘About a Girl’ (the one we watched in seminar) and ‘Barry’ (Can find on BBC Film network, under drama).

Idea 2) I shared on our facebook drama group with rest of crew;

Idea 3)
Focus around a single man...’JACK’...Jacks starts off his day with a ‘routine’ feel waking up looking sad, etc., (include shots to display that he is alone – glaring over old photos maybe)? Camera follows the man walking down a scenic route (voice over jack - love poem...leaving implications throughout upon the viewer that their relationship has ended / she has passed away) and across a busy city landscape (i.e. shot on a busy bus) while the voice over plays. Multiple flash backs occur relevant to words within the love letter / poem – (i.e. romantic field scene – playing and laughing etc) At this point the viewer should believe that they have broken up or possibly believe that she has passed on. TWIST final shot at graveyard – Man’s journey (walk) leads him to a graveyard where he sees his girlfriend grieving over HIS death over grave. Final words of the poem “Be near me when I fade away” – Inspired by Tennyson poem.

I will put these ideas forward in our group meeting early next week
